A veteran of three Lions tours,
including the epic tours to New
Zealand in 1971 and South Africa in
1974 Gareth Edwards was viewed as the jewel
of British rugby. Paired with fellow
Welsh half-back
Barry John in1971 then in '74 with the
equally brilliant Phil Bennett. His pace and
anticipation unlocked the most
secure defences and by the end of
his International career Gareth Edwards had
captained Wales 13 times and scored
20 tries. He retired having secured
his place in history as the most
complete player the game has ever
witnessed. Many would also say that
his Barbarians try against the All
Blacks was the greatest of all time.

“If you ask any player who has
played for the Lions, then they will
tell you… that was different, that
was special”.
