Having been a member of the
victorious 1989 Lions team, which
beat the Wallabies in Australia,
Hastings was selected as the Captain
for the 1993 tour to New Zealand.
The All Blacks were at the height of
their powers and the British & Irish
Lions were unfortunately hit by several injuries in key positions.
Although having narrowly lost the
first test Hastings managed to rally
his side to a remarkable record
breaking victory of 20 points to 7
in the second in Wellington which
set up a gripping climax to the
series. He led by example and was
the tour's top points scorer with 101
points.
